Abandoned by God – John MacArthur

In this 30 minute audio teaching, John MacArthur seeks to show us, using the book of Romans as the text, that God is in the process of handing the nation of the USA over to fulfill it’s own lusts.

It is as John explains, the wrath of God being revealed from heaven on unrighteous men.

Definitely worth listening to and if you are one of many Christians who today is struggling with sexual sin, perhaps this may compel you to flee from it all the more.

There are so many needs in our world today. Needs that could be met in Christ if we were willing to commit our lives wholeheartedly to this call. I for one am convicted by this 3 minute video.

Jeremiah 6:16-19

Thus says the LORD:

Stand in the ways and see,

And ask for the old paths, where the good way is,

And walk in it;

Then you will find rest for your souls.

But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.

Also, I set watchmen over you, saying,

Listen to the sound of the trumpet!’

But they said, ‘We will not listen.’

Therefore hear, you nations,

And know, O congregation, what is among them.

Hear, O earth!

Behold, I will certainly bring calamity on this people–

The fruit of their thoughts,

Because they have not heeded My words

Nor My law, but rejected it.

Masters of our own destiny

If you’re a regular reader of articles on this blog you’ll be aware that it’s my firm belief that the unfolding economic crisis of our day is something far more significant than a recession and more significant than the depression of the 1930s.

I believe that it is in fact, the end of the world as we know it. Not the end of the world just yet, but as the crisis unfolds it will continue to propel the world toward a new global order. An order which will ultimately have tragic consequences for humanity.

Many might think that this economic collapse is the judgement of God on our unrighteousness. In a sense this is true, yet I see it a little like Jeremiah saw it in his day. That the Lord is simply allowing men to be the masters of their own destiny. The economies of the western nations are failing not because God has judged them, but because men have done that which seemed right in their own eyes. It is the natural desire of men, their greed, selfishness, idolatry, covetousness and refusal to heed the word of the Lord that has brought the worlds economies to this point.

The way I see it, God has simply handed us over. He is no longer able to correct, as we have refused to heed His correction.  He refuses to uphold any longer, as we refuse to uphold Him.  Therefore as Jeremiah proclaimed to the Jewish people 2600 years ago “your own wickedness will correct you”. In this prophecy we can see a dual fulfillment being presented to Western Christendom.

Jer 2:19 Your own wickedness will correct you, And your backslidings will rebuke you. Know therefore and see that [it is] an evil and bitter [thing] That you have forsaken the LORD your God, And the fear of Me [is] not in you,” Says the Lord GOD of hosts.

Our Christian nations would have done well to teach fear of the Lord in this context, that should you desire to be the master of your own destiny, should you forsake the Lord your God, He will grant you the desires of your own carnal heart. He will allow you to pursue your own plans and no good thing shall come of it. For the natural desire of men is according to their nature and can never be anything but wickedness. God simply takes His hand off and we are apt to stumble as a result of following our own ways.

Is this not exactly what has happened to our western prosperity, which is now being revealed as a house of cards, a system that has no real foundation, nothing to uphold it.

In this same way, in the book of Romans Paul tells us that that God will hand men over to fulfill the lusts of their flesh, their unnatural desires, because they refuse to acknowledge Him and give Him thanks and glory. Romans 1:24, 1:26. God does not cause them to sin, He simply no longer restrains them from fulfilling their lusts.

You see Christian it is God who restrains, God who upholds, God who constrains men from following after their carnal fleshly desires. When God has closed His ears and turned His back toward us in indignation at our refusal to live according to His leading and heed His direction, the outcome will always be tragic. We shall be the masters of our own destiny, and our own wickedness and backslidings will lead us down perilous paths.

This is how I can know, how you can know Christian and be assured that we are now on a path that will lead to the most testing and tragic days that the earth has ever witnessed. Why? because Western Christendom has taken upon itself to be the master of it’s own destiny. And sadly doing this having heard the gospel, the grace of our Lord, and having for the most part, wholeheartedly rejected Him and His ways.

This is not going to be pleasant!
